CADET PROGRAM - How it all started


The first meeting - October 7th, 2009

St. Augustine High School, St Augustine. FL - The Civil Air Patrol St Augustine Composite Squadron conducted today the first drill practice and formation of the new Cadet Squadron. A total of 22 bright and young cadets participated in this practice event as they prepare to complete the first achivement, the 'Curry' achievement as they progress through the Cadet Program. The Commander and all the staff and senior members are very proud to see these young cadets express high levels of enthusiasm and leadership in this event and CAP. Great Job SER-FL-173 cadets. The road to success is getting easier and shorter as every day goes by. What a great time to be part of SER-FL-173.

The initial open house - September 16th, 2009

IT'S OFFICIAL: A new Cadet Squadron was born today in the city of St Augustine

St. Augustine, FL - It's Official. Today marked the first day of the birth of the new Cadet Squadron at the St Augustine Composite Squadron SER-FL-173. Congratulations to everyone that participated and submitted applications to join as Cadets and Senior Members

The event took place during the first Civil Air Patrol open-house for the St Augustine Composite squadron at the Galaxy Aviation facilities located in the St Johns County St Augustine Airport. The event began with Squadron Commander Ralph Avilés, CAPT, CAP, addressing the group by giving a welcome message/speech to future Cadet Members.

The meeting was well attended by over 55 visitors, members of our squadron, and members neighboring CAP Squadrons. By the end of the initiation meeting, the St Augustine Squadron received over 20 applications for new cadet and senior membership. On behalf of the United States Air Force and the St Augustine Squadron, thank you for support, City of St Augustine. Your community will greatly benefit by your willingness to become a CAP member and been a part of the main missions of the Civil Air Patrol, Aerospace Education, Cadet Programs, and Emergency Services. What a great time to be a part of this historical time in the life of the new St Augustine Composite Squadron. Thank you for your support.

School presentation - September 4th, 2009

St. Augustine, FL - The Commander of the new St Augustine Composite Squadron, Captain Ralph Aviles with the assistance of the Deputy Commander for Cadets, Senior Member (SM) Matt O'Toole, and other staff members visited the St Augustine High School where they talked to students of the Aerospace Academy program about the Civil Air Patrol (CAP).

SM O'Toole and Captain Aviles and provided a brief history of CAP, explained the three main missions of CAP (Aerspace Education, Emergency Services, Cadet Programs), and explained the benefits of been a Cadet member at CAP. The CAP St Augustine Squadron is on target to create the first Cadet Squadron in the St Augustine area since 1994. The date of the birth of the new Cadet Squadron has been set for September 16th, 2009.

The first Cadet Squadron at the new St Augustine Composite to be born on September 16, 2009

St. Augustine, FL - It is with great pleasure to announce that the new St Augustine Composite squadron has completed the first steps to create a new Cadet Squadron. The induction date for the first St Augustine Composite Cadet Squadron has been set for September 16, 2009. On this date, our squadron will be officially processing membership applications for kids and teenagers 12 through 17 years old that would like to join the first Cadet Squadron at the St Augustine Squadron. After the application is processed members of our squadron will be taking measurements to order their CAP uniforms.

If you would like to be part of history and join the Cadet Squadron from day one, or want to learn more about the Civil Air Patrol we invite you to participate in a public orientation and information brief that will be presented at Galaxy Aviation conference room at the St Augustine / CAP on September 9th, 2009 at 6:30 PM. If you would like to receive any information before the that day please contact any member of our staff.

The newly formed St Augustine Composite Squadron to begin accepting Cadet applications

St. Augustine, FL - The St Augustine Squadron, now a Composite Squadron as of June 05, 2009 is pleased to announce that beginning now is accepting applications from interested young members between the ages and 12 to 17 to participate in the first Cadet Unit program that will begin in the next couple of week.

About St. Augustine Composite Squadron SER-FL-173

The St. Augustine Composite Squadron is part of the Civil Air Patrol an auxiliary of the United States Air Force. The Squadron is a volunteer organization in which members, ages 12 and up participate in search and rescue missions in the Florida region, work with local governments in training and provide support for emergency services during disasters such as hurricanes, and provide support for both drug enforcement agencies and the United States Air Force. The Civil Air Patrol provides training in aerospace education, emergency support, and communications at the squadron level for both Senior Officers and Cadets. Search and Rescue (SAR) and service in the community are the primary goals of the squadron.
